You may be wondering what a Missouri Foxtrotting Pony is.
The MFTPR began registering ponies in June 2004. The complete rules/policies are not listed here, just an overview,
so please educate yourself before considering any pony, registered or not, that is advertised as a MFT Pony.
In general, any pony from a newborn foal to the 5th year may be registered with temporary papers as a MFT Pony if at
least one parent is a registered MFT horse.
Remember, this is just an overview and there are more conbinations accepted but please visit the MFTHBA website for all
the rules/policies.
By age 5 the pony must meet the rest of the requirements to be permanently registered in the MFTPR. They must
be 44 inches to 14 hands at age 5 and that height must be verified. A video tape of the pony foxtrotting must also be
included but may be done anytime from age 2 to 5 yrs old and be inspected. If they cannot meet all of the requirements,
they are no longer registered since their initial registration papers are only good until age 5. A MFT horse that meets
all of the guidelines (including a video to prove gait) may also be double registered as a MFT Pony.
There are no restrictions noted as to color or markings. There are no preferences as to the pony breed used or
even whether the pony is registered or a grade pony. The results will speak for themselves as far as producing the foxtrot,
the correct conformation, the height and temperament. I'll go into more detail regarding our breeding strategy in the
next pages.
